We know fines are unpopular, but they're necessary as an incentive for library users to return material on time. This is important because some items are needed by several people at once. Since a majority of books are returned within a few days of their due date, overdue notices are generally not sent out until material is a week past due. However, by that time a fine has already started to accumulate. You can avoid fines by keeping track of the due dates. Due dates are stamped on a slip just inside the front cover of each item; in addition, the Circulation Desk attendant will tell you when the material is due and in most instances you will receive a Courtesy Notice via e-mail. You may also view your record from the My Library Account on the Library Homepage.
The library uses your UNI e-mail address for delivery of all notices. If you prefer to use an e-mail address other than your UNI account login to My Library Account and enter your preferred e-mail address in the patron information section.
If an item becomes overdue by 30 days the patron will be billed an average of $40 replacement fee* for books and an additional $7.50 processing fee per item. The $40 replacement fee may be refunded if the book is returned in good condition within 6 months of the billing date.
* Fees for items in Youth Collection, Art & Music, and Documents and Maps may vary.
* Exact replacement of billed items will be considered in lieu of the $40.
