Assistive Technology Room 281

The assistive technology equipment has been moved from room 280 to a larger room, room 281.  Room 281 is located east of the Reference Desk on the second floor.

Please see the Assistive Technologies web page for detailed information about the equipment available in room 281 and additional services in the Library.

Youth Collection Moved to First Floor

Youth Collection

The Youth Collection has moved to a temporary location on the first floor on the east side of the building.  The Collection will remain on the first floor until the refurbishment project is completed in their area on third floor.  Their third floor home will receive new furniture, wall paint, carpet, and shelving over the course of the fall semester.

If you have any difficulty locating Youth Collection materials please be sure to ask the friendly folks in the Youth offices on the first floor, or stop by the Circulation Desk or Reference Desk on the second floor.

New ABI/INFORM Interface

ProQuest has introduced a new interface for its databases such as ABI/INFORM Complete, ABI/INFORM Archive, and Hoover's Company Profiles. Rod Library switched to this new interface over the summer. The databases can be accessed from these links, from the Business Portal, or from the Rod Library home page, Databases A-Z heading.

The new interface provides search modes such as as basic, advanced, and data & reports.  The data & reports mode provides an easy way to search a set of industry and market reports from publishers such as First Research Industry Profiles, Business Monitor International, and Just-Series Market Research Reports; commodity reports from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU); and Country Reports from EIU and Oxford Analytica.

The advanced mode provides an easy way to identify source types such as scholarly journals; document types such as case studies, interviews, and industry and market reports; and document features such as cartoons.

ABI/INFORM Complete cover 1971 to the present. ABI/INFORM Archival covers 1905-1985. Hoover's Company Profiles provide details such as products & operations, subsidiaries, competitors, and brief financials.

The yellow Find It button that links to full text in other databases is not available for the time being; for now, look for an "SFX" button to link to full text.

Faculty and Staff Library Fines

UNI has recently implemented a new Student Information System (SIS.)  When the old information was migrated into the new SIS system, faculty and staff with outstanding fees attached to their University bill were notified via e-mail.  Some of these fees include library fines.  Because the old system did not notify faculty and staff of outstanding fees of less than $20 it is possible this recent email is the first time you have been informed of a library fine on your account.  If you have any questions about a recent "Library Fine" on your account please contact the Circulation desk at 319-273-2462.
