Out-of-Print Items When Acquisitions Department staff confirm that an item selected for ordering is out-of-print, and unavailable for purchase, a notice is sent to the subject bibliographer who initiated the order. The bibliographer in turn decides whether to initiate a search for the item on the out-of-print market and whether to have the requestor notified of the status of the item. Acquisitions Department staff contact selected out-of-print dealers in an attempt to locate a copy of the item which meets Library criteria for condition and cost, which may vary by title and subject area. The search process may be prolonged but will be continued until a copy is located or the bibliographer issues instructions to terminate the search. October 1999 |
