The library does not collect textbooks intended for use at the N/K-12 level. An extensive collection of in-print materials and related teacher editions, guides, and manuals is available in the Instructional Resources & Technology Services Center (IRTS) in the College of Education.
The acquisition and availability of textbooks in the Library varies according to discipline. Where the subject literature generally is highly sophisticated or technical, or where textbooks are the primary course literature at the undergraduate level, textbooks may be acquired for the library collection as sources of alternate descriptions and explanations of topics of interest. In some disciplines, previous editions may be retained in the collection for historical or comparative purposes. Programmed texts utilized in disciplines such as Computer Science also are acquired.
Workbooks and laboratory manuals rarely are acquired for the collection. Personal copies of such materials may be made available at the Reserve Desk at a course instructor's request.
