Alumni Association Record Books, 1954-1988

Archival record series: 08/04/13

Alumni Association Record Books, 1954-1988. 1.25 linear feet

This series is a collection of Alumni Association documents developed over the years by Alumni Association staff.  It consists of material found in five three-ring binders that had been labeled Alumni Books 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.  Books 1 and 2 were not present.  Howver, the material in University Archives record series 08/04/04 Alumni Association Secretary's Books, 1880-1930, may have served a similar function.  Each binder included material from a particular chronological period, though there was some overlap between binders.

  • Book 3 contained material from 1954 through 1971;
  • Book 4 contained material from 1971 through 1978;
  • Book 5 contained material from 1979 through 1984;
  • Book 6 contained material from 1984 through 1986;
  • Book 7 contained material from 1986 through 1988.

The binders contained many kinds of records relating to Alumni Association affairs, including Board minutes, financial reports, articles of incorporation, by-laws, rosters of award winners, committee reports, membership reports, and samples of material mailed to alumni.

This material had been stored in the basement of Gilchrist Hall.  In preparation for the repair of Gilchrist Hall following the fire in October 2005, the Alumni Association sent this material to the University Archives in June 2006.  Some material was photocopied due to its poor physical condition.  In addition, the deteriorated binders were replaced with archival folders.  However, all material remains in the same order in which it was received.
