Abbott C. Page

Abbott Chandler Page, 89, passed away quietly at his residence, 169 W. 7th Street, Claremont, California, at 10: 30 A.M. today after a long illness.

Mr. Page was born November 24, 1856, in Branford, Connecticutt, on a farm occupied by his family since 1685, attended Branford schools and New Haven High School, and was graduated in 1885 from Yale University's Sheffield Scientific School. He was high school principal in Humboldt, Iowa, for a year, and public schools superintendent in Waterloo, Iowa, for three years.

From 1889 until serious illness in 1910 required his resignation, he was a member of the Iowa State Teachers College faculty, professor of natural sciences, and later of physics and chemistry.

Returning to Branford, he recovered sufficiently to teach in the high school there for five years. In 1919 his health broke again. He moved to Callfornia, lived in Pomona three years, and then built the Claremont residence which ever since has been his home. He was active for many years in the Thursday Club and Afternoon Club, was deeply interested in Pomona College, and was a member of Claremont Community Church.

Mr. Page's first wife, Mary L. Chapman of Iowa, died in 1925. There were no children. In 1927 he was married to Mrs. Faith Douglass Hodson of Claremont, who survives him. He is survived also by two stepchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Private funeral services will be held in Todd Memorial chapel Friday at 11 A.M. with Dr. Luther Freeman officiating. Private committal services will be held in Oak Park Cemetery.
