Evelyn J. Mullins

CEDAR FALLS - Evelyn J. Mullins, 88, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, formerly of 2209 Clay Street, died Tuesday, February 9, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 28, 1904, in Grinnell, daughter of William R. and Maude Kennell Mullins. She received her bachelor's degree from Grinnell College and her master's degree from Columbia University in New York . She had been a librarian with the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1970.

There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Auman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at United Church of Christ, with inurnment at a later date in Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell. There will be no visitation; she deeded her body to the University of Iowa for research. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

Evelyn J. Mullins, a member of the Library faculty for forty years, died February 9, 1993, in Cedar Falls at the age of 88. She had served the Library as Head of the Circulation Department and, later, as Order Librarian. Ms. Mullins was a long-time member of the American Association of University Women, the American Association of University Professors, the American Library Association, the Iowa Library Association, and the Iowa State Education Association. She was a graduate of Grinnell College and of Columbia University School of Library Service.

Evelyn was friend to faculty and staff over many years, being especially kind and generous in welcoming new staff members to the university and, often to her home, and in following the progress of each thereafter. Her great interest in art and music and in literature, travel, and the natural world enriched all of her friends and was reflected in the Library's collections.

Memorial services were conducted at the United Church of Christ on February 15. There are no immediate survivors. Her body was deeded to the University of Iowa for research. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
