Mahmood Yousefi

Mahmood Yousefi, Ph. D., 60, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, December 9, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center, of ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease.

He was born September 27, 1939, in Naragh, Iran, the son of Hassan and Najmieh Fazeli Yousefi.  He married Rachelle LeRoux on July 20,1968, in Nevada.

He was a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, and received his master's and Ph. D. degrees from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  He was the Department Head in the Economics Department for four years at Pahlavi University, Shiraz, Iran.  He was visiting professor in the Economics Department at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado, and associate professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.  He was full professor in the economics department for eighteen years and also served as acting assistant vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of Northern Iowa.

Survived by:  his wife; one son, Michael of Davis, California; one daughter, Carolyn Yousefi of Rio Vista, California; his mother of Tehran, Iran; one brother, Ahmad Yousefi of Tehran; and one sister, Saghar Yousefi Sahrai of Orangevale, California.

Preceded in death by:  his father; two brothers, Namat and Shapour; and one sister, Iran Yousefi.

Services:  4 p.m. Tuesday in the Reading Room, Seerley Hall, University of Northern Iowa.  There will be no public visitation; however, the service is open to the public.
