WHAT ARE THE PENALTIES FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT?
Civil and criminal penalties may be imposed for copyright infringement. An individual found to have infringed a copyright may be ordered to pay a fixed statutory fine, forfeit all infringing copies, turn over all profits they have made from infringing copies, or a number of other remedies may be imposed by the court. If you don't receive a response to your request for permission you cannot assume that you have been granted the necessary copyright permission.
Note that the particular penalty levied by the court for copyright infringement may be based on precedent from case law [previous judicial decision,] but each court decides on a case-by-case basis whether and to what extent to penalize the infringing party.
