How Do I Find Books?
Search UNISTAR
UNISTAR Guide
Use UNISTAR, the Rod Library's online catalog, to identify and locate books and other resources about nonprofit organizations and youth development owned by the Rod Library. UNISTAR may be found under the Books & More tab on the Rod Library home page. Rod Library uses the Library of Congress Subject Headings which group items by subject. Therefore, if you find one book on your topic there will be other books on the same topic nearby on the shelves. A wide range of subject headings will lead to information about nonprofit organizations and youth development. Some examples are:

Finding Articles
Information concerning topics in nonprofit organizations and youth development can be found in a number of scholarly and popular journals and magazines. The following Rod Library databases are most useful in finding journal articles in this area. Many Rod Library electronic resources contain the full text to articles. Select the desired index or abstract title from the Databases A-Z listing under the Articles tab on the Rod Library home page. The “*” symbol located next to the database name in the list below designates that the database contains at least some full text articles.
ScienceDirect*
Rod Library Databases A-Z page.
Access to over 1100 full text electronic Elsevier journals in the sciences and social sciences through this service provider. You can search MEDLINE/PubMed through this database by checking the box next to Abstract Databases box located in the Sources field on the search screen. If you search MEDLINE/PubMed through the ScienceDirect database, complete titles of journals are given in the article citations unlike when you search MEDLINE/PubMed through the National Library of Medicine at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/ which only provides abbreviations for journal titles.

Serves as a major indexing/abstracting tool for students and staff, as well as providing a link to all full-text electronic titles registered with Catchword, ScienceDirect, and the Emerald Library.
Academic OneFile*

Academic OneFile is from the service provider InfoTrac. The database covers a wide range of subjects, including recreation and leisure services. Many articles are available full text within the database. If the full text of the article is not in the the database, click on the yellow "Find it" button to determine if Rod Library has access to the article in electronic format, print format, or if Rod Library has no access to the article.

Indexes journal articles and documents in education from 1966 to the present. An alternate free access point for ERIC is from the U.S. Department of Education (http://www.eric.ed.gov/). The full text of recent ERIC Documents (ED items) are available. None of the ERIC Journal Articles (EJ items) are full text in ERIC but many of the articles can be found full text in the Education Full Text database. Click on the yellow "Find it" button at the bottom of each record to determine if the Rod Library has access to the article in electronic format, print format, or if Rod Library has no access to the article.

Indexes the psychological literature from 1887 to the present. For the most part this is not a full text database. There may be a few full articles that are linked to in the database, in these cases look for a FTXT field and click on the link. Listed below are e-journals related to nonprofit organizations and youth development that the Rod Library owns. Some of the e-journals are accessed through a publisher's database and some are through an aggregator (third party vendor). In some cases, you can browse the electronic journal as you would the print journal. In other cases, the link will take you into a database and automatically retrieve all articles from the journal.
The Rod Library has access to journals in a variety of formats. To identify whether or not the Rod Library has a journal in print or electronic format, conduct a title search in UNISTAR using the name of the journal.
Note #1: For journals found in the Business & Company Resource Center database, the links listed below take you to the UNISTAR record for the database. Click on the Connect to via Gale Group link in the UNISTAR record to enter the database. Once in the Business & Company Resource Center database, click on the Articles button, enter the journal name in the Limit by Journal Name box, and click on the Search button
