Circulation
  • Check out books and most other circulating Library materials
  • Pay fines
  • Renew materials
  • Put holds on or recall checked out materials

A variety of services is available at the Circulation Desk. It is located on the second (main) floor just inside the entrance. This is where most circulating materials are checked out.

Checking out

If you have a UNI identification card and want to check out a library material, present your ID and the material you wish to borrow to the Circulation Desk attendant. The attendant will scan the barcode on your ID and then the barcode inside the cover of each book. Persons not associated with UNI may check out library materials by filling out a form at the Circulation Desk and purchasing a Visitors Card. Information and fee rates are available upon request at the Circulation Desk.

Renewals

Books from the stacks and government documents may be renewed for one week at a time through the end of the current semester; Browsing and Career Collection books may be renewed once, for one week; Youth books may be renewed once, for three days. Bound Periodicals, Information File materials, and items that have been requested by other patrons may not be renewed. Books may be renewed by phone (273-2462), mail, in person, or through UNISTAR. Overdue materials have to be renewed by Library Staff. Art & Music material may be renewed by phone by calling the Art & Music Collection (273-6252), in person, or through UNISTAR. Overdue materials must be renewed by a staff member.

Library Fines

We know fines are unpopular, but they are a necessary incentive for library users to return material on time. This is important since some items are needed by several people at once. Overdue notices are mailed out when the material is a week past due. By that time, a fine has started to accumulate. Due dates are stamped on a slip inside the front cover of each item. You may also view your circulation record which includes due dates through UNISTAR.
