Who can ask questions?
Email service is intended for use by UNI students, faculty, and staff and by Iowa residents. Questions from others may be answered, particularly if they relate to resources unique to Rod Library.
What can I ask?
Questions such as the following are appropriate to this service:
- How to find books, journal articles, and websites for your assignments
- How to use search tools such as LexisNexis Academic
- How to find statistics or other factual information on a topic
- Questions about Rod Library resources and services
We recommend scheduling a research consultation or visiting the reference desk in person if you have questions that require extended help.

When can I expect an answer?
We email answers and follow-up questions within one to two business days, with the exception of weekends and holidays. You may wish to call (319-273-2838) or visit the Rod Library reference desk if you need help sooner than this.
Who will answer my question?
Staff of the Reference & Instructional Services Department will work on your question or, when appropriate, refer your question to another Rod Library department. All email from us will be from the return address <email@example.com> and will be sent to the email address you gave in the form at the top of this page.
What information must I submit? What happens to this information?
You need to submit information such as your name, email address, question, and UNI affiliation. This information and the answer provided by the library staff member remain in our system for 30 days. We do not share your personal information with anyone outside of Rod Library.
Patrons are expected to communicate in a courteous manner. Questions may not receive an answer at the discretion of library staff members.
