Sadie B. Campbell


Campbell Hall, the women's dormitory, was named for one of the most influential women on the faculty. Sadie B. Campbell served as Dean of Women at UNI from 1929 to 1952. She was an exceptional leader who exerted a great influence on the development of the residence hall program.

Born in 1892, Campbell graduated from a Colorado high school and received her B.A. degree from Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley, Colorado, in 1919. She went on to earn a master's degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City in 1925. She also completed work towards a doctoral degree at Columbia. Before coming to UNI, Campbell worked as an intermediate school teacher and a junior high school principal in two Colorado schools. Next she was supervisor of high school instruction at the high school in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. After receiving her master's degree, she became Dean of Girls at a high school in Des Moines, Iowa, where she served until she came to UNI in 1929. She died in 1965.
