BIOGRAPHY

Paul C. Kelso joined the UNI faculty in 1948 as an Extension instructor in elementary mathematics. He then served as Director of the Counseling Center from 1949 through 1978. He served as Coordinator of Student Research from 1978 until his death in 1985.

PAPERS

Paul Kelso's papers provide a detailed look at the history of counseling, orientation, and advising services at the university from 1949 through 1978. The strength of this collection, accumulated by the director of these services, cannot be overstated. The long run of staff meeting minutes gives a nearly day-to-day picture of staffing, services, and changing emphases. The extensive collection of material used for academic advising and orientation programs illustrates the services that students received in these areas.

Dr. Kelso's widow, Dorothy, initially gave the papers to David Towle, Director of the Counseling Center, in July 1999. Dr. Towle then passed on the collection to Rod Library Special Collections in May 2000.
