April 2007 Student of the Month
Congratulations to Rebecca of Collection Management Department, our April Student of the Month!
Rebecca began working in Collection Management in August of 2006 after many years of food service employment. She applied at the library because she was looking for a change and enjoyed being around books. Once she started in Collection Management, she was surprised to learn of all of the steps that go into adding materials to the collection. Some of her duties include processing gift books, maintaining the print subject files, and handling YBP notification slips (which includes getting them to the proper bibliographer for purchasing decision). She has also served on the Library Student Computer Fee Committee. Rebecca’s nominator especially noted her “self-motivation” and her “interest in understanding how the department’s work fits into the Library’s goal of serving our patrons”.
Originally from Marion, Rebecca likes that UNI is not too far to visit her parents and sister on occasion. A junior Math Education major with a minor in Educational Technology, she was bitten by the travel bug last summer when she went to Tokyo with Camp Adventure. She hopes to return to Japan to complete student teaching. After graduation, she would like to teach High School or Middle School math in Iowa but has not ruled out moving to another region of the U.S. A bit farther into the future, she would like to continue her education and possibly teach at the college level. One of Rebecca’s passions is color guard. She was part of the Linn-Mar color guard for 3 years in high school and is a 3-year member of the UNI color guard. She would like to be able to coach someday.
Thank you Rebecca for your hard work and dedication!
