April 2010 Student of the Month
Alyssa is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for April 2010. Alyssa began working in the Youth Department in May 2008. She does a little bit of everything up in the Youth department. Some of those duties include: getting new books ready to be put out on the shelf, helping with inventory and weeding in the summer, helping with the display cases, helping Yolanda and Sandy with bibliographer checks, maintaining the periodical collection in the Youth Department and the big project of helping convert the order card system to an electronic version. Alyssa was interested in working at the library after her literature professor alerted her to an opening in the Youth department and she likes the flexibility her job at the library has to offer.
The people who nominated Alyssa noted that, “[she] is very dependable, accurate, and complete” and that “she possesses a willingness to do whatever tasks she is asked to do.” Alyssa’s nominators go on to say that “she completed a major project examining full length books and labeling them by genre to ensure ease of use for patrons.” Alyssa also participated in the planning process of the Hunger Games held in Fall of 2009 and also volunteered for the event.
Alyssa is a hometown girl and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 2007. She is a junior Early Childhood Elementary Education major with a Literature minor. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. She plans to graduate in December 2011after completing her student teaching that fall. Congratulations, Alyssa, for being chosen April 2010 Student of the Month!
