December 2009 Student of the Month
A big Panther cheer to Tyler, our December Student of the Month!
Tyler has worked in the Access Services Department since January 2008 and has been a Building Monitor since May 2009. In addition to helping patrons at the circulation desk, building monitor duties include doing rounds, and opening and closing the building. He also worked on the dictionary stand project with staff from Technical Services this summer. He notes that shelf-reading is his favorite duty. The person who nominated Tyler wrote that, “[he] is reliable, dependable, and the quality of his work is outstanding” and added, “[Tyler] is always courteous to staff and patrons.”
Tyler is from Des Moines and graduated from Saydel High School. He is the oldest of four children in his family. One brother attends Iowa State and the 2 youngest siblings are at home. Tyler is a senior English education major who will student teach in the Dubuque area during the Spring 2010 semester. After graduating, he hopes to teach middle school English somewhere in Iowa. A summer in Germany with Camp Adventure convinced him that eventually he would like to teach overseas.
In his free time, Tyler enjoys reading, playing tennis and basketball, and spending time with his girlfriend, who also works at the Library.
Best wishes for the future Tyler, and congratulations on being selected Student of the Month!
