December Students of the Month
Congratulations to Jared, December 2011 Student of the Month!
Jared’s job entails working behind the scenes on a very public face of the Rod Library: its website. He edits page layouts, adds content, and creates the look of the graphical “ads” that rotate in the lower right corner of the library home page. One of his biggest projects lately has been to work on the conversion of the library staff intranet, which is an internal website just for library staff use. The intranet has just undergone a major renovation, and Jared’s work has been instrumental in the smooth conversion to the new site.
Jared is a senior majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS). He began working for the library in mid-2009, and will graduate from UNI this month. The library staff will miss his technical skills and friendly attitude.
Jared is originally from Coralville. After graduation he plans to move out of state for a while, and is setting his sights on the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The fact that he is a major Dallas Cowboys fan is only part of the reason for wanting to go there!
One of Jared’s hobbies is watching sports (see above). Although a big fan of the Cowboys, he says that if he had to follow only one sports team it would be the Chicago Cubs. Maybe a move to Chicago is in his future some day? Another of his hobbies is playing guitar.
Jared is looking for a job in which he can continue to work in the areas of web development, web content management, and/or graphic design, preferably in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We wish him well as he steps into his post-university future.
Thank you, Jared, for all of your excellent work at Rod Library!
Our congratulations to Michelle – December 2011 Student of the Month!
Michelle will be graduating this month from UNI. She is an English major (non-teaching) with a Creative Writing minor. Her plans after graduation are to move back home, find a job, and study for the GRE.
Michelle applied for a job here at the library 2.5 years ago because she was interested in getting a master’s degree in library science. Maybe her work here will still convince her to pursue that as she seems to have a knack for library work. Her nominator said of Michelle that “she is very self-directed and can always be counted upon to do far more than is the minimum required. Michelle was recently asked to move some listening equipment from the public service area to a storage area. Not only did she do this assignment in a timely and efficient manner, she noticed that one of the cabinets in the storage area had a broken door, so she fixed that without being asked to do so.” Michelle’s duties in Art & Music include manning the desk and checking out material to patrons. She also does shelf reading and works on special projects as assigned.
Michelle’s hobbies include hanging out with friends, watching movies, and crocheting. Some of her previous crocheting projects include small blankets that she has donated to various organizations. Michelle also has a great love for animals. She grew up in Boone where her love of animals was developed but her family now lives in Ames.
We wish Michelle the best of luck in the future and a big thank you for all her hard work!
