February 2014 Student of the Month
Chelsea is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for February 2014. Chelsea is from Raymond, Iowa. She is an Art major, and is contemplating a minor in Writing. Chelsea is currently a junior and plans to graduate in May 2015.
Chelsea has worked at the Rod Library since the fall semester of 2011. She works in the Access Services Department, and her duties there include staffing the Multiservice Center and Circulation desks. Her tasks include helping with Interlibrary Loan, along with checking out laptops, equipment, and library material. When asked if she has a favorite library duty Chelsea has a hard time pinpointing a specific task but says that she likes keeping things clean, which is a positive asset in any organization. Chelsea also says that she considers herself an optimistic person and doesn’t like to dwell on the negatives. Reflecting this attitude, Chelsea’s Student-of-the-Month nominator wrote, “Chelsea is very reliable and dependable. Chelsea cares about customer service and goes out of her way to make sure library patrons are able to find what they need. She does all that is asked of her without complaint and with a smile.”
It’s easy to see why Chelsea is majoring in Art, as she has used her creative talent to great effect in various areas of the library. She was responsible for the Beatles-themed display that graced the front of the former MSC area on the first floor, and she created the Greek-inspired scene that now brightens up the front of the relocated MSC desk on the second floor, along with various Valentine’s Day pieces that currently decorate the library. Thanks for lending the library your talents, Chelsea.
Away from her job and studies, Chelsea likes to read, draw, and watch animation. She also says that she has a fondness for old movies, from silent films through the 1930s. After graduation, Chelsea would like to work in graphic design. She also has hopes to utilize her talents to write and illustrate children’s books. Thanks for being such a good employee, Chelsea, and congratulations for being chosen February 2014 Rod Library Student of the Month.
