March 2008 Student of the Month

mar2008ashley.jpgAshley is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for March 2008. She is from the town of Thornton, near Clear Lake in north central Iowa. Ashley is a senior with a double major in elementary education and early childhood education and plans to graduate in December 2008.

This coming summer will be a busy and exciting time for Ashley. Not only will she will begin student teaching in August in Overland Park, Kansas, near Kansas City, but she is also getting married on August 2. Her fiancé works in the Kansas City area, so Ashley’s student teaching assignment is a perfect fit.

Ashley found work in the library through an online ad for an opening in the Youth Collection area. She thought that working in the Youth Collection would be a good complement to her career plans and she decided to apply. Three years later she is still with us and says that the Rod Library is simply a good place to work. Ashley’s responsibilities include processing new books, doing bibliography checks, helping students and putting together displays for the display case. Ashley says she enjoys the creative aspect of constructing a display and thinks the experience will carry over into her classroom when she begins her teaching career.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching movies and playing golf (a sport played on grass, which, according to legend, is green and exists somewhere beneath the current layers of snow and ice). Gook luck, Ashley, as you work towards graduation and your upcoming marriage, and congratulations for being chosen March 2008 Student of the Month!
