March 2009 Student of the Month

mar2009aubrey.jpgAubrey is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for March 2009. Aubrey is pursuing a degree in Social Science Education, grades 7-12, and is minoring in Psychology. Aubrey says she enjoys working with young people and has long had a desire to become a teacher. She also has a strong interest in psychology and feels her minor in this area will complement her teaching abilities. Aubrey is currently a junior and is working toward a fall 2010 graduation date. Her hometown is Gowrie, Iowa, located about 20 miles south of Fort Dodge.

Aubrey started in the Rod Library at the start of the fall 2007 semester. She works in the Technical Services area where she has a variety of duties, including processing new books, relabeling old books, updating microfiche item records, working with authority records and scanning images for digitization projects. Aubrey says she most enjoys processing new books because it involves a variety of hands-on tasks, as opposed to working with authority records, which can mean long stretches in front of a computer. No matter the task, however, Aubrey does a first-rate job. As a nominee for Student of the Month, Aubrey was cited for her outstanding work and her willingness to take on any task when needed. Her attention to detail and positive attitude were also highlighted on her Student of the Month nomination. Aubrey says she decided to look for a job in the library because she knew it would helpful to her both as a student and as future teacher. In fact, Aubrey says she has learned a lot by working in the library that she has been able to apply to her classroom studies. She adds that the people she works with makes the library an enjoyable place to be.

Away from her job and studies, Aubrey likes to read and participate in outdoor activities, such as camping and kayaking. After graduation, Aubrey says she might like to begin her career in another part of the country but feels she will eventually make her way back to Iowa. Wherever her career takes her, we know she will make an outstanding teacher. Thanks for being such a good employee, Aubrey, and congratulations for being chosen March 2009 Rod Library Student of the Month.
