November 2009 Student of the Month
Selena has been a student employee in the Reference Department at the Rod Library for 2 ½ years. She is a junior double majoring in Biology and Study of World Religions. She hopes to graduate from UNI in the Fall of 2012. After UNI, she plans to go on to study either at Iowa or Mayo, as she plans on becoming a doctor focusing on clinical research. Selena calls Hanlontown, Iowa, her hometown. If she can ever find time away from her studies, she likes to dance (jazz, hip hop), scrapbook, and play piano.
Selena’s responsibilities in Reference include: assisting patrons with searching the online catalog and basic database searching, shelving books, and cleaning computers. Selena chose to work at the library because her sister also worked in Reference at the Rod Library. Selena’s nominator says that she "is pleasant and professional in dealing with the public and her co-workers", and that "she carries out the highest level and lowest level student duties thoroughly, pleasantly, and without complaint. She is an ideal employee." Her nominator goes on to say that she is good with details, and does every task she is given carefully and well. Selena was a student member of the library’s Student Computer Fee Committee in fall 2008 and volunteered to staff the library table at several new student orientations during summer 2009 where she represented both the library and UNI well.
Congratulations Selena, you are most deserving of the Student of the Month award.
