November 2013 Student of the Month

Joanna is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for November 2013. Joanna is from Storm Lake, Iowa. She is an English Education major, and is minoring in Literacy. Joanna is currently a senior and plans to graduate in May 2014.

Joanna has worked at the Rod Library for two years. She has an older sister who also worked in the library, and the library is fortunate that Joanna decided to follow in her sister’s footsteps. Joanna works in the Access Services Department, and her duties there include shelving, interlibrary loan, and staffing the Circulation and Multiservice Center desks. Joanna says she likes working in Interlibrary Loan but is quick to add that she likes working in the library in general. She enjoys working with other student assistants and the regular staff, and also likes interacting with patrons and helping them in any way she can. Joanna’s customer-service orientation was echoed by her Student-of-the-Month nominator, who wrote, “Joanna is always very kind to everyone she works with. I can tell that students are very appreciative with her willingness and patience to help them. I feel like she is a really representative of the library and that she makes students feel welcome when they come in.”

Away from her job and studies, Joanna likes to read and hang out with her family. After graduation, Joanna would like to find a teaching position but is also considering returning to UNI to pursue a master’s degree. Wherever her career takes her, we know she will do very well. Thanks for being such a good employee, Joanna, and congratulations for being chosen November 2013 Rod Library Student of the Month.
