September 2008 Student of the Month
Alex is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for September 2008. Alex is a senior pursuing a double major in Middle Level Education and Spanish Education. His plan is to graduate in fall 2009. Alex’s hometown is West Union. He attended Humboldt High School, where he was involved in gymnastics. In fact, Alex won a Junior Olympics gymnastics competition as a senior in high school.
This is Alex’s second semester working in the library, where he helps staff the MultiService Center desk. As a nominee for Student of the Month, Alex was cited for his exceptional leadership skills in the training and support of new student assistants. Also mentioned were his sense of humor, positive attitude and excellent customer service. Alex’s duties include handling course reserves material, Interlibrary Loan photocopy requests and helping patrons with access to the compact shelves. Alex says he enjoys working in the MSC area, and adds that his co-workers are the best part of his job. As for the compact shelving, well, that’s another story….
In his free time, Alex does some gymnastics coaching in Hudson and also likes to spend time with friends. After graduation, Alex would like to add some miles to his already well-worn traveling shoes. Alex has been to Europe and Asia, and had the opportunity to study abroad in South America, where he visited Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Peru. He says he would like to return to South America and perhaps make the jump to Antarctica, which is part of his goal of visiting all seven continents. Alex would eventually like to settle in the Miami area and go on to grad school, specializing in English as a Second Language. Good luck, Alex, as you work towards graduation and life beyond, and congratulations on being chosen September 2008 Student of the Month.
