September 2010 Student of the Month
Becca is a Building Monitor in the Access Services Department. She started here at the Rod Library 2½ years ago as a freshman, hired specially for one of the library’s many book shifting projects. She has since worked her way up through the ranks, and has done virtually everything a student can do in this department.
In addition to her Building Monitor duties, this past summer Becca was instrumental in overseeing the current shifting project, a task that required a lot of heavy lifting, as well as directing other students in what to do. She’s also been updating the LA II and student manuals at MSC, so she’s demonstrated an ample amount of both brains and brawn!
Becca is an English major with minors in both Professional Writing and Spanish. She plans to graduate in May 2011—which will be only the second best thing that happens to her next summer. In a true library love story, she and fiancé Tyler will be getting married in June. Becca and Tyler met while both were student employees in ASD.
She is no stranger to libraries, having worked in one back home in Sanborn, Iowa, before coming to UNI. She is currently considering Library Science as a career. In her spare time—if someone with a major and two minors can find spare time—she is a member of the honor fraternity Sigma Tau Delta, and an organization called CATS: Connecting Alumni To Students. She also enjoys spending quality time with her family and Tyler, exercising and "watching trashy reality TV shows."
Congratulations to Becca, our well deserving Student of the Month!
