September 2012 Student of the Month
Marykaye is the Rod Library’s Student of the Month for September 2012. Marykaye is pursuing a degree in Leisure, Youth and Human Services, with an emphasis in non-profit. Marykaye is beginning her fourth year at UNI and is working toward a Spring 2014 graduation date. Her hometown is Washington, Iowa.
Marykaye started in the Rod Library in 2009. She works in the Technical Services area, where she has performed a variety of duties over the years, including processing new books, checking in periodicals, receiving firm orders, binding tasks, handling supplies, working with renewal invoices, sorting and delivering mail, scanning and book mending. No matter what she is working on at the moment, Marykaye does a great job. Even though Marykaye is still young, she already has a lot of library-related experience. She started volunteering at the Washington Public Library as a fifth-grader and eventually got a paying position there while a freshman in high school. When Marykaye got to UNI, it was only natural that she came to the Rod Library looking for work. She says she was a bit surprised when she was hired during her first semester at UNI, but it should come as no shock to anyone familiar with her background.
Away from her job and studies, Marykaye likes to read, watch some TV, bike and socialize with friends. After graduation, Marykaye says she would like to start her career in Iowa and is contemplating graduate school and an MLIS degree. Wherever her post-UNI life takes her, we know she will do very well. Thanks for being such a good
employee, Marykaye, and congratulations for being chosen September 2012 Rod Library Student of the Month.
