Censorship Clippings file, 1970-2004

Archives Record Series: 22/11/05

Clipping files relating to censorship, 1 .5 linear feet.

Description of the Material

These files were created by Professor Lucille Lettow, Youth Collection Librarian at the University of Northern Iowa. Professor Barbara Safford also added material to these files. The files consist primarily of newsclippings and photocopies of articles relating to censorship, book challenges, and intellectual freedom. Some of the files relate to cases in which Professor Lettow assisted libraries and librarians when they faced challenges to their book selections. In these cases there are sometimes E-mail messages relating to Professor Lettow's assistance.

The collection is divided into three parts: national issues and cases; general Iowa concerns; and specific Iowa cases.

Description of Record Series

Professor Lettow gave this collection to the University Archives in March 2005. The general material relating to national issues is arranged alphabetically by the name of the article or subject. The general Iowa material is arranged chronologically, for the most part. The specific Iowa cases are arranged alphabetically by the name of the city in which the case took place.
