Scope and content: The E. C. Fossum Papers focus on his radio program, Mend Your Speech, which began in 1948. Included in the collection are scripts of the program from 1948 and 1950-1951; newspaper clippings from 1945-1946 and 1972; a 1953 booklet on speech correctionists in schools; and an article published in a The Journal of Education in 1954 entitled “Cooperating with the Speech Correctionist.”
Historical note: E. C. Fossum (June 22-1905-May 21, 1989) was hired as an Assistant Professor of Speech in 1943. During the 1950-1951 school year, he became an Associate Professor in the department. He held this position until he joined the Placement Bureau in 1958 on a temporary basis. He was the Assistant to the Director of Placement for 4 years before becoming Director in 1962, a position he held until his retirement in 1973.
