Reference and Instructional Services

The Reference and Instructional Services Department is responsible for assisting library users with research and information needs, assisting users with electronic resources, providing instruction in the use of library resources, developing reference and other collections, and helping develop and maintain electronic and other information needs. Typical student responsibilities within the Reference and Instructional Services Department include assisting library users at the Reference Information Point, shelving and filing library materials, filing looseleaf services, providing tours for school groups, and replacing and unjamming computer paper.

Government Documents and Maps

Rod Library is a Congressionally mandated federal repository, and houses publicly-available government documents and books from both the United States and State of Iowa.

The librarians of the UNI Rod Library can teach focused or general library instruction sessions designed to meet the specific needs of your class.

Reference, Indexes & Abstracts

The Indexes & Abstracts Collection contains printed sources that list articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers. In UNISTAR, materials in the Indexes & Abstracts Collection are indicated with the location of UNI Index/Abstract.  This collection is located on the first floor of the library, at the end of the Bound Periodicals area.  The collection is non-circulating.
