ScholarSpace and Makerspace

Monday, December 21, 2015 - 3:22pm - Construction for the new Makerspace and ScholarSpace began September 2nd, 2015 and is still underway. These projects were made possible through two separate grants, Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust and  McElroy Trust.   These spaces will be a great addition to the Rod Library.   The ScholarSpace will be a space to showcase UNI scholarly work.  The space on the east side of the third floor is being redesigned to meet these needs. The space can be used by anyone on campus to present the results of faculty or student research, celebrate scholarship, or present programming that engages audience members in scholarly dialogue.  The space will be able to  seat up to 100 people and... Abstract Photoshop Collages

Friday, December 18, 2015 - 2:36pm - Rod Library is proud to present artwork by UNI student Devon Mettlin on the Learning Commons Exhibition Wall during the month of December. Devon Mettlin is an Electronic Media Production and Performance major at UNI. He works as a Media Consultant at the Rod Library Information Desk. Devon was raised in Cedar Falls and especially enjoys the river, parks and trails, and nature’s seasonal changes, which are reflected in his artwork. As a child he used styrofoam from his great-grandmother’s recycling bin to construct 3D objects. Calling All Artists!

Friday, December 11, 2015 - 2:53pm - Rod Library’s Diversity Committee is hosting the first “Diversity Means…” art exhibit during February 2016. UNI Students, faculty, staff and community are invited to submit entries to the student juried show. The theme is interpretive to the title, “Diversity Means…”. Artists are encouraged to submit a personal narrative about their artwork. Artwork can be digital, paint, ink, pencil, charcoal, crayons, photography, collage, poetry, and small 3D objects. The artwork will be published on Rod Library’s website (with your permission). Stress Busting For Finals 2015

Friday, December 4, 2015 - 10:51am - Finals week creeps up on us once again.  Don’t worry, the Rod is here to make the journey slightly less painful.  We have a few stress relieving activities planned.  Dec 14-16 from 5pm-8pm there will be free chair massages in the Learning Commons.  The graffiti wall and stress free zones will make a reappearance, and back by popular demand- P.E.T.P.A.L.S therapy dogs will be in the lobby to greet you and let you know how amazing you are.   They’ll be here Dec 9,10, 14-16 from 11am-2pm. On Dec 13 at 7:00pm enjoy milk and cookies while you study, served by President Bill Ruud and Judy Ruud.
