Local artist Chaveevah Banks Ferguson will lead a discussion of her work and life on Wednesday, March 1 at 4 p.m. on the main floor of Rod Library at UNI. Her paintings are on display in the library until March 5. An artistic door prize will be awarded to one lucky contestant.
Chaveevah earned her bachelor’s in public relations and master’s in communication education at UNI and is the owner and founder of BaHar Publishing in Waterloo. The company has published numerous books including works of fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, and poetry.
The whimsical and colorful artwork conveys the feeling of motion. Much of her art is influenced by her love for dance and music. The images pay homage to the years she danced with the Mantu Dance Theatre of Chicago and to Chicago’s vibrant music scene, where jazz, blues, and reggae ruled.
