Policy Statement

While library staff are concerned with the safety of all library users, the responsibility for the direct supervision, care and safety of children lies with a responsible caregiver. Children in the library that are younger than 12 years must be supervised at all times by a parent, guardian, or other caregiver.

Library staff shall take appropriate action upon discovering unsupervised children. Actions include contacting the parent or caregiver. If unable to contact a parent or guardian, or if the situation requires more immediate action, library staff shall contact the University of Northern Iowa Police for assistance.
